Equal under the sun…

FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE: provocateur, man of letters, and belated hippophile. (1844-1900)

“Nowadays, and for all time remaining, the gains of any party in any democratic election poses no longer a threat to anybody’s comfort.

“The days when politics mattered are over; when I put God to rest, I was right in calling out the Last Men. Now I speak to the Lost Men, and I’m right again in putting democracy to rest.

“First the Almighty and the Eternal, the Absolute and the Good dissolved. Now it is the people, the sublunary, the temporal, and the rational that is gone.

So let me break the news badly with advice from a dead aristocrat: ‘Keep calm and carry on!’

In this age of still-born promises, all parties all over the spectrum are equally incompetent. After political victory on the left, it’s all about waiting for the next sandal to drop. On the right, the waiting is for the falling boot. But in both cases, our patience will not be tested.

For everybody knows competence has always been a democratic illusion.
